I lived there until I married a Valley Stream girl in 1971. After graduation in 1968 I served in the Navy and went on to college. I work for the Justice Department in Washington, DC and hope to retire in the next few years. We played punchball and running bases on the streets. At JHS 59 my friends were Rita Simon, Ronnie Kanner, Linda Lee, Naomi Becker, Susan Bayliss and Raymond Wong.

Retired, with (3) horses, (1) border collie, (25) plains bison and a horse farm on the north fork of Long Island. I became active in race-walking in the late 1990s (I was never a physical education aficionado back in AJHS! My kids still don't seem to understand the way it was. I was in ADG and we were close with many fraternities. I have an older sister, Janet Breitman and we're still in touch with Margy and Judy Lesk. We moved to Laurelton in 1949 and lived at 133-08 234th Street. In spite of doing worst in French, I actually learned more than I thought and can still survive when I visit France. I've lived in Israel for the last 35 years and have been a "Lubavitcher" (Chabad) for the past 23, and have a big, beautiful family of kids and grandkids. I have only the fondest memories of growing up in Laurelton. It was truly a "neighborhood" and we didn't need to make "play dates". My sister, Barbara Tabor ( Cohen) lives just up the road in Boynton Beach, which is where, ( now that we read the listings) she'll be on the lookout for Sherry Axelrod! I have also seen Larry Silversmith, Holly Malkin and of course my brother Jack Fox and his wife, Marilyn Shulman. Although Andrew Jackson scared me to death at first, it became a huge positive social and educational experience with too much to put here in words. I seem to have lost touch with all people from Laurelton. In 2001 we moved to Boca Raton, Florida where we currently reside. I loved living in Laurelton and rarely run into anyone from there. I used to live at 228-12 135 Ave, across from the Young Israel. I sadly read an obituary in the Los Angeles Jewish Journal for Dick, yesterday. As I write this I am waiting for my friend, Ivy Silverstsein (AJHS 1969.) to arrive in Boca for the holidays. They all attended my daughter's wedding 2 years ago. I have wonderful memories of just hanging out with whoever was around at night in the summer and safely walking around the neighborhood. I married my wife Francine in 1970 and we lived in Forest Hills, Queens for six years and then moved to Syosset, Long Island where we lived for 27 years. I attended PS 176, Jr High School 59, and Jamaica High. I was just browsing the names and stories on the Laurelton website and came across Rabbi Dick Schachet. Does anyone remember Samuel's Cleaners, Charlies Bar, the LIRR tressle, the great bakeries on Merrick Road, the wonderful pizza and delicious food at Wong's Garden. Always looking to get a game of softball going after school at P. Laurelton was, and is, a beautiful neighborhood, and I have only the best memories. Travel to the Caribbean on a regular basis for recreational SCUBA diving on wrecks and reefs.

My husband Jack lived in Arverne in the Rockaways 169th Street and Thursby Ave. We met at a Purim dance at the Laurelton Jewish Center Feb. From there we left for England where we spent a year in Manchester and then returned to Chicago where we have been ever since. Played handball all summer in Mentone Park, rode my bike everywhere, even to Rockaway Beach. but spent most of my teen years with my friends in Laurelton. Can't believe I still remember the words to our PDG sorority song "for we're the girls with the pep and the vigor, too, to stand for PDG... Laurelton was a wonderful and safe place to grow up in. I have moved around the country a good deal for business. We played ball on the street, went to Merrick Road to hang out with friends and rode our bikes all over town. I've reconnected with some and it's such fun to relive those wonderful times. So many of the names on the list here are immediately associated with a face, an event, a home, even of parents.
