Vista news gadget not updating

This fix seems to work as long as the file and folder exists.

Not every Win 7 installation has this file/folder, as I discussed it with a friend who tried to fix it on his machine and he didn't even have the Windows Live folder.

The following code snippet demonstrates how to determine in your gadget whether Sideshow is available using the enabled method: Also note that the enabled method reports whether Sideshow is supported on that operating system, not whether a Sideshow device is currently available. The application Event feature is not fully supported on the currently shipping version of Sidebar and should generally not be used.

You can update content using repeated calls to add Text/add Image with the same id value.

This automatically disabled on the sidebar and desktop as well.

I am so glad I stumbled on this thread, because since I got this laptop 3 yrs.

The weather gadget that came on my Win7 laptop is still working.

The only thing that happens to it, is when some MS updates are done, they apparently lock whatever makes it work.

Though the UAC feature has been introduced to provide better security on windows, many did not like it from an usability perspective.

Hence users of Windows 7 (beta version or Windows 7 RC), set the UAC level to “Never notify”.
